How do I get my work published?
So I'd like to find a decent agent to help me find publishers for some book ideas, but I have no idea how to find one! I live in a dinky a$$ town right now, but am moving to Albuquerque in a few months. I've looked online, but there are too many scams and shady looking stuff. Any help you can give would be great! Thanks! Lol, I didn't mean "ideas" I meant the books! I have ideas and drafts, and my English professors have looked them over and said they're pretty good, just need some professional editing.

You need to write the entire book first. THEN you begin looking for agents. Write a query letter, which can take much time in itself, because it needs to be perfect.

1.) Go to the Library 2.) Check out a copy of writer's market 3.) Find several agents. 4.) Send many queries.

I would recommend that you go out and buy Writer's Market (you can also go to their website at http://www.writersmarket.com/). It's a guide book with tons of information (including lists of agencies with lots of info about what they do and don't publish etc).

You can not publish book ideas.

First off, an agent will hardly ever represent a story idea. You should have most, if not all, of your story completed before you send it out. And don't ever ever ever send it to an agency that charges a fee for reading your manuscript, that's a scam. As to where to send it, I would recommend checking out a copy of "The Writer's Market" from your local library. That will introduce you to publishing jargon, teach you how to write a query/cover letter, and also list most of the agents and publishers and what genre of stories they represent. Check out this website: http://www.caroclarke.com/iamyoureditor.html That article is called "I am Your Editor: Submitting Your Novel" and the site also has other helpful articles and tips on how to write/finish your book. Good luck to you!

There is a website called borders and if you go on there and create an account there is an area where they can have you publish it. It costs though...If you want to do a longer process go to the library they have books that show you the process and also lists of names for publishers and proof readers...Good Luck!

First of all we have hit a recession. Agents aren't going to help you market book ideas and don't have the time to wait around for it to come to fruition. Publishers are even less inclined considering they have a long list of finished products in which to choose from. --- They have ideas that will be written poorly and others that will be done well. They will have manuscripts that are excellently written with a so so concept so believe me 'ideas' are not gonna cut it in this industry at this time. --- If you are serious spend some time at some libraries and attend some lectures of published authors. Maybe hit up a conference or two attend a workshop and join a national writing organization. Those people will have the best advice because most of them have been doing this for many years.

I suggest that you self-edit your work. You can set it aside for a while and then you can come back to it later and do the editing. Here's a site about you to publish. It is really worth visiting and I hope it can help you with what you want to do with your story. http://selfpublishingjourney.wordpress.com/
